The Contour+2 comes with an internal microphone, just like the rest of our cameras. It also has a 2.5mm socket on the bottom of the camera that can be used for an external microphone or to capture audio from an airplane or automotive comm system.
Many external mics and comm systems use a 3.5mm jack, and you may need to purchase an adaptor cable that will convert from 3.5mm to 2.5mm.
The mic socket is located on the bottom of the camera under a small rubber cover. Pull the cover open and insert your mic jack or the mic adaptor cable. The volume level for the external mic can be set in Contour Storyteller or using the Contour Connect mobile app.
This is a mono (single channel) socket so using a stereo mic will only capture one channel. If you want to use a stereo mic you will need to convert the signal to mono prior to sending it to the Contour+.
You can use any mic you choose with the Contour+2 and different mics work better for different conditions. You will want to research to find the right mic for your situation. This is not a powered port and the Contour+2 cannot provide phantom power. If you wish to use a powered mic, the mic will need to use an external power source.
