aspect ratio? firmware?

richard davies Dec 25, 2012 12:38PM MST

Hi, my gen 1 ROAM updated the firmware to v1.11. my first question is what are the improvements made to this camera if any? also, I uploaded a clip to you tube and it has black vertical bars on the side, like the picture doesn't go all the way to the sides. I've never noticed this. is this anything to do with aspect ratio and has this ratio changed through firmware update v1.11? I normally shoot in tall HD.
we have a new wide screen lap top, is this causing it? ta.

Hello Richard,

The new firmware was to update compatibility with certain operating systems and to change the format of the video to MP4. I suggest checking your settings to see if the update set them to default.

Hi Richard,
Base on your story, there's no issue with your cam and it's firmware.
It's about difference aspect ratio between your selected your cam and default aspect ratio in Youtube. If you choose Tall HD 960p or Continuous Photo, it's a 4:3 ratio while Youtube's default A/R was 16:9 (Full HD 1080p, HD 720p, High 480p and low 360p). If you set the the cam to any those 16:9 above, I'm sure your video will looks fully wide displayed in Youtube.
