Storyteller can't initialize movie player. Follow-up from question posted 05, 2013 10:23AM PST

Original Question

I got the above error on my Windows 7 machine and followed the help instructions to uninstall and reinstall QuickTime and Storyteller. That solved the problem, but only very briefly. Storyteller ran the first time I tried it after reinstalling and rebooting, but subsequent attempts to run it give the same "can't initialize movie player" error message.

Original Response

Hi Dave,

Thanks for contacting Contour Technical Support. That is an indiction that there is a problem with the Quicktime installation on your computer. I suggest that you follow those steps once more, but this time when you get Storyteller running go to the preferences section of the program and change the default movie player to use Windows Media Player.

Updated Question

Thanks for the quick response. I did everything suggested and was able to start Storyteller, but again only once. Even though I changed the default movie player to Windows Media Player, any attempt to open Storyteller gets the "Storyteller can't initialize movie player" error.

Hi Dave,

In that case there is something about that machine that is preventing Storyteller from running. While we try very hard to make Storyteller so that it can run on every system, we can't promise that it will work everywhere. It seems that something on your system is changing or corrupting the needed components on their first run.

At this point, my suggestion is to try a different computer.
